Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 2/3 cups brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups Honey Crisp apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tbsp butter (for sautéing apples)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (for sautéing apples)
  • 6 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 stick butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup confectioners sugar
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Method

  1. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden and fragrant, then remove from heat.
  2. Sauté the chopped apples with 1 tbsp butter and 1/4 tsp cinnamon until tender; set aside to cool.
  3. Whisk the warm browned butter with the brown sugar in a mixing bowl.
  4. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Fold in the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until just combined.
  6. Fold in the cooled sautéed apples.
  7. Spread the batter into a parchment-lined baking pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes.
  9. Prepare frosting by whipping cream cheese, butter, confectioners sugar, maple syrup, and cinnamon until smooth.
  10. Cool the blondies completely before spreading the frosting on top.

Notes

Ensure the apples are completely cooled before folding into the batter to avoid melting the butter and affecting the texture. Use high-quality pure maple syrup for the best flavor in the frosting. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
