Ingredients

  • 1 large loaf French baguette (about 1 lb)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 5 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Equipment

  • Baking sheet Lined with parchment paper
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Serrated Knife For even slicing
  • Spoon or Spatula For spreading butter

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes until fully combined.
  3. Slice the baguette in half lengthwise and place cut-side up on the baking sheet.
  4. Spread the garlic butter generously over both cut sides, getting into all crevices.
  5. Top evenly with shredded mozzarella, then sprinkle grated Parmesan over the top. Press cheese down lightly.
  6. Bake 8-10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden. Broil 1-2 minutes for extra crispiness if desired.
  7. Rest 2 minutes, then slice into 2-inch pieces and serve immediately.

Notes

Use room-temperature butter for perfect spreading. Fresh garlic recommended for best flavor. Rest 2 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts. Make-ahead friendly up to 24 hours.
